Rob: "I think the the Nord has been the most inspirational piece of gear that we've worked with, it's pushed us to get all our other gear to try and emulate it.Casio CZ-1 Editor Librarian Midi Quest for Macintosh and Windows Most of the gear that we like to use gives us a good result because it has this sort of interface." Sean: "It's so lush having that (pointing at the Nord's control surface), you have no idea. Rob: "People assume that the amount of polyphony equals the breadth of your options, but with the Nord you might have a sound that runs for eight seconds and doesn't sound the same more than once." I think you'd say that our music is well f**king complicated, so how much polyphony do you want?" Sean: "There's a couple of tracks on the Cichlisuite single that are entirely Nord. Rob: "I think people underestimated what the Nord could do, and it was quite expensive when it first came out." Last year it was all Prophecy this, Prophecy that, that's all I read about." Sean: "The Nord is f**king tasty, I don't know why you guys don't totally rave about it. But only after I buy MINE first!! I will crush you in a bid war!!!!! CRUSH I SAY!!!!! So why bother with using $25k worth of tape machines and yards-long tape loops wrapped around mic stands? Hell you could probably do the entire Fripp and Eno album on just a laptop loaded with Ableton Live 9 and nothing else. But those same sounds can be achieved (very easily) with just one multi-track phrase looper and a guitar rig today. On Fripp and Eno's "No Pussyfooting" album there were piles of tape loops used to create the soundscapes on that recording (like on the song "Swastika Girls" on that album). Just go straight to those, and you'll easily reach that type of sound. All of those noises are deeply within the capability of any of the Nord Modulars. My point is, stop punishing yourself by trying to use a NL1 to get there, just go straight to the Nord Micro Modular or one of the larger Nord Modulars and make life far easier on yourself. regardless of what that group says they used. all of that squeaky/squonky stuff is way Way WAY within the DSP power of the Nord Modular series. In the end, who really knows? What artists ~ say~ vs what artists ~ do~ is another debate altogether. isn't that within the NL1's capability? If not, it wouldn't be too difficult to apply post production weirdness to get to those ends. I'm hearing audio rate modulated VCOs, hard sync stuff, some of it swept with envelope modulations. and I am totally open to the idea that heavy post production was also applied.

I'm hearing some heavily multi-tracked stuffs going on. Now the idea that ONLY a Nord Lead 1 was used, and it was ONLY one track or a live performance in the studio is an entirely different issue. Had a few (NL2, NL2X, N元, and maybe one or three more). Perhaps many.īut I don't hear anything past what a Nord Lead can produce, to be honest. if it was infact a Nord Lead of some ilk that was used in those recordings, who's to say the raw audio wasn't sped up or otherwise tweaked? One thing is fairly clear, there's a number of tracks used in each recording. many times it's total BS just to prevent revealing their methods. Regarding what creators say about their recordings.
